Setting SMART Goals for 2015

I like making goals.  Not just at the New Year, but all the the time.  I make goals monthly, weekly, and sometimes daily about what I want to accomplish.  All goals should be SMART – I learned this in my Social Media Marketing class.  SMART is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.

Train at the Gym:  Let’s just get this one out of the way.  I don’t just want to go to the gym, putz around on the treadmill and go home.  I want to train to be more fit, toned, athletic, and healthy.  This will include eating healthier as well.  That’s such a huge part of the process that, in the past, I haven’t considered to be very important.  I plan on doing this by going to the gym 4-5 times per week with planned workouts.  I have spoken with a trainer, and we’ve got measurements to compare every 6 weeks to see how I am doing with the workouts that I have.

Find a Challenging Job:  I just graduated from college, and I am in the process of looking for a “big girl” job.  Yes, I attended school for Marketing for 4.5 years, but there is still so much to learn.  I want to find a job that I am capable of doing, but one that also challenges me to learn new things every day.  Hopefully I get a job and am working before my birthday in February.  That would be the absolute latest, but I think that I can do it.

Be Brave:  This kind of goes with the first two, but also along with everything in my life.  I want to be brave in the choices that I make whether it’s the decision to relocate for a job, sticking to a challenging workout program, or standing up for myself in a conversation.  I’m not sure how to actually “measure” this, but I just need to be sure to just be brave in everything that I do.

Be Financially Responsible:  I am pretty bad at saving money.  Partly because I have little to no income, but also because I really enjoy caramel macchiatos from Starbucks.  I need to buy myself a car soon (my sister and I are currently sharing one from school), and my student loans are coming up quick as well.  I need to learn to be responsible with my money this year, otherwise I won’t be able to afford to live!  I have looked at different budget plan, and there is one in particular that I like, and have started using to keep track of my expenses.  Each month I am going to evaluate where I have spent too much money, and if I have room to save more.  I have played around with budgets in college, and they helped a lot when money was really tight.  So, I’m excited to see what I can accomplish as far as saving goes.

Something that helps keep me organized and on top of goals is writing them down and putting them somewhere I know I’ll see them often.  This could be in your phone, on a board in your room, or on a post-it note on the refrigerator.  Anywhere that works for you, really.  As I said before, I make goals all the time about all sorts of things.  So these are not the only things that I will be focusing on this year.  I hope that you have many goals throughout the year and that you succeed in reaching them.

Happy New Year!

Follow along. You know you want to.
